Arizona is STILL a Super State!

And Maricopa County is a Super County that can influence the balance of power in our state and the country!

Swing Left Maricopa County’s (SLMC) mission is to mobilize voters, organize community events, and build strong volunteer networks to elect a governing Democratic majority in Arizona at all levels of government – federal, state, and local. Electing Democratic governing majorities will protect our freedoms and advance a just and fair society for all of us.  We will achieve our mission by staying laser-focused on supporting candidates and campaigns where we can flip the balance of power in Arizona and Washington, D.C. while building volunteer capacity, community, and power.

 

Why the focus on Maricopa County?

 

As goes Maricopa County, so goes Arizona!

  • Maricopa is the nation’s fourth largest county, second largest voting district, and biggest battleground county in the country.
  • Maricopa County is home to ⅔ of all voters in the state - a candidate for statewide office cannot win without a win in Maricopa County.
  • Maricopa County is home to one of only two competitive Congressional Districts (CDs) in the state - CD 01 currently held by David Schweikert (R).
  • Maricopa County is home to five of the seven competitive State Legislative Districts (out of 30) – LD 02, LD 04, LD 09, LD 13, and LD 27.

When we defeat David Schweikert in CD 01, we reduce the already thin margin the Republicans hold in the U.S. House of Representatives.  Maricopa County voters in CD 01 have the power to help flip the balance of power in Congress.

If we can flip four State House seats, Democrats will have the majority in the Arizona House of Representatives. It will take flipping three Senate seats to secure a majority in the State Senate. Imagine the impact having Democrat majorities in the Arizona Legislature could make for our State!

Midterm targets for Swing Left Maricopa County are:

  • Defeat David Schweikert in AZ CD01
  • Re-elect Governor Katie Hobbs
  • Re-elect Secretary of State Adrian Fontes
  • Re-elect Attorney General Kris Mayes
  • Elect Democrats to:
    • Superintendent of Public Instruction (send Tom Horne packing - again!)
    • Arizona State Treasurer
    • Arizona Corporation Commission
  • Flip both Arizona Legislative chambers to Democrat majorities
  • Defeat any ballot referrals that threaten and/or undermine democratic freedoms, immigration, justice, and/or voting rights

Since 2018, Swing Left Maricopa County has engaged voters and volunteers to take actions that will help elect Democratic leaders who will protect our freedoms and advance public interests like education, healthcare, and jobs.
